Beethoven’s three Op. 10 Sonatas (1796–1798) mark a transformative transition from Classical tradition to a more dramatic, individual style. Ranging from the tragic urgency of No. 1 and the rhythmic humor of No. 2 to the expansive emotional depth of No. 3, the set is unified by a characteristic short–long motif. In this Challenge Classics release, acclaimed Italian pianist Roberto Prosseda performs the sonatas on an 1820 Conrad Graf fortepiano. Following his lauded Op. 2 recording, Prosseda utilizes the period instrument’s distinct registers, raw dynamic contrasts, and responsive mechanism to deliver a sincere, speech-like interpretation that recovers the music's original sound world.

Born in Latina in 1975, Roberto Prosseda is an acclaimed Italian pianist, author, and artistic director widely recognized for his versatility and musicological contributions. He achieved global renown with landmark Decca recordings, including the complete piano works of Felix Mendelssohn and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Prosseda has performed alongside leading international orchestras under conductors such as Riccardo Chailly and Yannick Nézet-Séguin, while also pioneering the modern revival of the pedal-piano through extensive performances and recordings. Beyond the stage, he authors books, creates television documentaries, directs festivals like Cremona Musica, and received a 2026 International Classical Music Award for his album War Silence.
