The album juxtaposes the compact, tautly restless Sonata in A minor, Op. 23, against the expansive lyricism of the beloved Sonata in F major, Op. 24, brilliantly showcasing the contrasting dimensions of the composer's emerging voice.

Grammy Award-winning Icelandic violinist Sibbi Bernhardsson, an Oberlin Conservatory faculty member since 2017, enjoyed a distinguished 17-year tenure with the Pacifica Quartet, earning Musical America’s Ensemble of the Year award and an Avery Fisher Career Grant. A highly versatile artist, he has performed at premier venues worldwide—including Carnegie Hall and Wigmore Hall—and collaborated with chamber icons such as Yo-Yo Ma and Menahem Pressler. Beyond classic stages and television appearances with Björk, Bernhardsson active leads international education as director of the Cooper International Violin Competition and artistic director of the Harpa International Music Academy.

Hailed by The New York Times as "a marvelous pianist," Peter Takács is widely recognized for his penetrating, deeply communicative musical interpretations. After beginning his studies at the Conservatoire de Paris at age fourteen, he completed his artistic training under the legendary Leon Fleisher at the Peabody Conservatory on a three-year fellowship. Takács has performed as a soloist with major orchestras internationally and appeared at prestigious festivals including Tanglewood, Music Mountain, and Chautauqua. His landmark 2011 release of the complete Beethoven piano sonatas on the Cambria label reflects a lifelong, critically acclaimed dedication to the master composer’s repertoire.
