Renowned Italian guitarist, composer, and master luthier Luigi Mozzani (1869–1943) left an enduring mark on classical guitar and instrument crafting. Despite early economic hardship, Mozzani taught himself music, initially graduating in oboe before devoting his career to the guitar. As an acclaimed international virtuoso, he toured Europe and North America while establishing a renowned lutherie school that harmonized artistic craftsmanship with acoustic innovation. Characterized by a distinctly Italian lyrical elegance, Mozzani’s guitar compositions remained largely unexplored until guitarist Walter Zanetti, alongside Monica Paolini for duets, recorded his complete original output, finally illuminating his forgotten musical legacy.

Italian guitarist Walter Zanetti, a graduate of the Bologna Conservatory, earned his master’s degree as a concert performer under Alberto Ponce at the École Normale de Musique in Paris. A winner of prominent international competitions, Zanetti is an eclectic artist, improviser, and professor of guitar at the G.B. Martini Conservatory in Bologna. His diverse output ranges from contemporary chamber music with the FontanaMIX Ensemble to experimental fusion on Cantos Yoruba de Cuba and collaborations with Eyvind Kang. Following extensive research into Baroque performance practice alongside lutenist Rolf Lislevand, Zanetti’s recent recording projects feature original lute works by Johann Sebastian Bach.
