To mark the 40th anniversary of Maurice Duruflé’s death, organist Winfried Lichtscheidel presents a complete recording of the composer's organ works performed on the grand organ of the Stadtpfarrkirche in Landsberg am Lech. Despite its modest quantity, Duruflé’s output represents a pinnacle of 20th-century French organ literature by seamlessly blending Gregorian chant with late-Romantic foundations from Louis Vierne and Charles Tournemire alongside impressionistic harmonies reminiscent of Claude Debussy and Gabriel Fauré. The instrument's specialized stop layout provides an ideal tonal palette, delivering an authentic rendering of these masterpiece compositions.

German organist and church musician Winfried Lichtscheidel studied Catholic church music and organ performance at the Stuttgart State University of Music and Performing Arts under teachers including Ludger Lohmann and Bernhard Haas, earning his concert diploma in 2010. Following a thirteen-year tenure as church musician in Sendenhorst—where he directed the "Sendenhorst Organ Autumn" and produced several recordings, including Charles-Marie Widor’s complete organ symphonies—he became the deanery church musician at Landsberg am Lech and artistic director of the "Landsberg Organ Summer" in April 2023. An active international recitalist, he maintains a specialized interest and scholarly background in the instruments of luthier Gerald Woehl.
