Based on Thomas Moore’s Lalla Rookh, the work chronicles a fallen angel’s journey to regain entrance to paradise by offering humanity's most sacred gifts: a hero’s blood, a lover’s final breath, and a sinner’s tear of repentance. Schumann’s Romantic score merges expressive solos and expansive choral writing to illuminate the Peri's spiritual quest. Guided by Savall’s characteristic blend of historical scholarship and emotional vulnerability, the performance breathes vibrant life into this masterwork of musical storytelling.

Jordi Savall (born 1941) is a central figure in the revival and reinterpretation of early and historical music. For more than five decades, he has combined performance, research, teaching, and cultural leadership to restore neglected repertories from the Medieval to Classical eras. With Montserrat Figueras, he founded Hespèrion XXI, La Capella Reial de Catalunya, and Le Concert des Nations, reaching audiences worldwide. Savall has released over 230 recordings and received major international awards, including a Grammy. Deeply committed to intercultural dialogue, he uses music as a means of peace and understanding. His recent projects include Beethoven’s symphonies recorded as Beethoven Révolution.
