Leaf Music and Ensemble La Cigale have released ¡Convivencia!, a filmed performance and audio album led by artistic director Madeleine Owen. Available via Prime Video, Naxos Video Library, and major streaming services, the project bridges Spanish Renaissance music with Arabic and Sephardic traditions, featuring works by contemporary Canadian composers alongside performances by diverse guest artists. Inspired by Owen’s cultural exchanges in Cairo, the project utilizes the five-movement structure of the North African Nouba to evoke the collaborative spirit of medieval Al-Andalus. Supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, director Emmanuel Crombez visually brought these musical tableaux to life through distinct atmospheric lighting and staging.

Founded in Montreal in 2006 and named after the musical insect, early music ensemble La Cigale specializes in Renaissance and Baroque music performed on period instruments. The group is acclaimed for warm, imaginative programming that bridges formal, traditional, and literary art forms to showcase forgotten masterpieces. Their discography includes the Prix Opus-nominated debut Tiorba Obbligata and critically praised follow-ups Up in the Morning Early and La Grazia Delle Donne. La Cigale has performed internationally across diverse stages—from major music festivals and academic conferences in Mexico and Canada to unconventional venues like art galleries and mountaintops.
