From Another World, the debut album by the Guttman Tango Quintet under violinist Michael Guttman, offers an inventive fusion of European classical architecture and Argentine tango. Recorded in January 2025 at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, the project reinterprets canonical themes by composers such as Beethoven, Mozart, Mahler, and Dvořák through the expressive lens of Buenos Aires. Rather than relying on nostalgia or pastiche, the ensemble of classical virtuosos drives the evolution of tango by seamlessly transforming familiar classical melodies into dynamic tango compositions. The album reflects a compelling creative alchemy that bridges centuries, continents, and distinct musical traditions.
