Grammy-nominated duo soprano Laura Strickling and pianist Joy Schreier return with LEGENDS: Rebellion, the latest installment in their series honoring women as storytellers and cultural memory keepers. Featuring world-premiere recordings, the album explores rebellion through political, emotional, erotic, maternal, and spiritual dimensions—spanning defiant Afghan women’s landay poetry, reimagined mythic heroines, and candid portrayals of motherhood. By challenging traditional genre expectations with expressive harmonic and rhythmic languages, LEGENDS: Rebellion presents art song as a dynamic space for courage and transformation, offering a compelling, human-centered program that engages both longtime art song enthusiasts and new listeners alike.

Laura Strickling is a celebrated soprano praised by The New York Times for her flexible voice, crystalline diction, and warm presence. A champion of contemporary art song, she spearheaded the landmark 40@40 Project commissioning initiative, hosts the SongCycle podcast, and curated The NewMusicShelf Soprano Anthology. Her diverse career encompasses operatic world premieres—including Tom Cipullo’s The Parting—and an extensive concert repertoire ranging from Bach to Britten. Strickling has performed as a soloist with leading ensembles nationwide, including the Seattle, Cincinnati, and Indianapolis Symphony Orchestras, while presenting recitals and masterclasses globally.

Collaborative pianist and vocal coach Joy Schreier serves on the music staff of the Washington National Opera and as Assistant Conductor and pianist of the Cathedral Choral Society. Renowned for her expressive, intuitive artistry, she has performed at top venues—including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Kennedy Center—alongside acclaimed artists such as Renée Fleming and Pinchas Zukerman. A distinguished vocal coach who prepared Fleming for The Hours at The Metropolitan Opera, Schreier also holds a doctorate from the Eastman School of Music and serves as the official pianist of the Washington International Voice Competition.
