Baritone Matteo Mencarelli and pianist Filippo Farinelli present a compelling anthology of turn-of-the-century Italian vocal chamber music, featuring a world premiere recording of works by Francesco Morlacchi. The collection traces a rich literary lineage, drawing on texts spanning from Dante Alighieri and Gabriele D’Annunzio to 19th-century German poetry and Neapolitan author Laura Beatrice Mancini-Oliva. Through these refined poetic settings, the featured compositions chart an intentional departure from the dominance of 19th-century theatrical melodrama. In doing so, Mencarelli and Farinelli highlight a pivotal artistic evolution that successfully realigned the Italian song repertoire with the broader European lieder tradition.
