Recorded at Garsington Studios in 2024, the album centers on the world-premiere recording of Anna Clyne’s 2020 title piece, which explores repeating and transforming musical structures. The program balances contemporary and classical repertoire by pairing Clyne’s work with the lyrical, single-movement Rhapsody by Ruth Gipps and Carl Maria von Weber’s virtuosic Clarinet Quintet. A distinguished figure in classical music, clarinettist Mark van de Wiel served as Principal Clarinet of the Philharmonia Orchestra from 2000 to 2025 and has led the London Sinfonietta since 2002. Renowned as both a soloist and chamber musician, he has performed at iconic global venues including La Scala and the Sydney Opera House. A celebrated champion of contemporary music, van de Wiel has premiered major works by composers such as Joseph Phibbs, Michel van der Aa, and Jonathan Dove. A Professor and Honorary Member at the Royal Academy of Music, his extensive discography includes critically acclaimed recordings with major labels like Signum.
