Canadian-American cellist, viola da gambist, and researcher Elinor Frey (b. 1979) is an acclaimed performer and educator specializing in early music. As the artistic director of Accademia de’ Dissonanti, she balances historical performance with rigorous scholarship, producing world-premiere recordings that have earned top accolades, including a JUNO Award and a Diapason d’Or. Frey has performed as a soloist across Europe and the Americas with major period-instrument and orchestral ensembles. A graduate of Juilliard, Mannes, and McGill, she teaches Baroque cello at McGill University and Université de Montréal, frequently publishing critical editions and leading cutting-edge research projects on 18th-century performance practice.
