DG China has launched the first four recordings of its complete Shostakovich symphony cycle, performed by the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra under conductor Long Yu. Marked as the first Chinese ensemble to record the entire 15-symphony cycle, the orchestra began releasing performances in 2025 across four seasons, aiming for a complete box set release in 2029 to celebrate its 150th anniversary. Beside the digital releases, Symphonies Nos. 7, 8, and 9 are highlighted in a commemorative 3-LP vinyl box set. Termed the "War Trilogy," these monumental compositions vividly portray humanity's profound psychological experiences during the trials of wartime.

Renowned conductor Long Yu (born 1964) is a central figure in China's classical music scene, serving as artistic director for the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and China Philharmonic, music director of the Guangzhou Symphony, and principal guest conductor of the Hong Kong Philharmonic. Raised in Shanghai and trained at the Berlin University of the Arts, Yu founded the Beijing Music Festival in 1998 and spearheaded major international diplomatic performances, including leading the first Chinese orchestra at the BBC Proms. Through key initiatives like establishing the Shanghai Orchestra Academy and signing an exclusive recording agreement with Deutsche Grammophon in 2018, Yu continues to elevate Chinese orchestral music globally.
