Sacred choral music was central to Felix Mendelssohn’s artistic journey, serving as a primary vessel for his spiritual expression through a lifelong succession of Psalm settings. This initial volume highlights the composer's masterly text-setting abilities, illustrating a broad emotional range that spans from the jubilant celebration of Psalm 98 (Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied) to the expansive depth of Psalm 42 (Wie der Hirsch schreit). Celebrated by Robert Schumann as Mendelssohn's finest achievement in sacred composition, this collection captures the profound sincerity, expressive elegance, and structural brilliance that define his enduring contributions to sacred music.
