Friedrich Schwindl (1737–1786) was an esteemed violinist and composer whose instrumental works, despite earning praise from figures like Leopold Mozart and Charles Burney, fell into obscurity after his death. Born in Amsterdam, Schwindl pursued a nomadic career along the Rhine, spanning the Netherlands to Switzerland, leaving behind a fragmented biographical record. His surviving catalog includes thirty-one symphonies that combine the structural features of the Mannheim School with a distinct, folk-like sensibility. Conducted by Werner Ehrhardt, the orchestra l’arte del mondo performs this historically informed recording to offer an authentic, virtuosic rediscovery of Schwindl’s vibrant orchestral legacy.

Conductor and violinist Werner Ehrhardt is a leading figure in the German period-instrument movement, renowned for his historically informed interpretations and broad musical repertoire. In 1985, he founded the acclaimed Concerto Köln, guiding its stylistic development until 2005 before establishing the orchestra l’arte del mondo in 2004. Alongside directing his own ensembles, Ehrhardt maintains an active international guest conducting career with major traditional and chamber orchestras.
