Volume 2 of the complete recording by Andrzej Szadejko and the Goldberg Baroque Ensemble highlights the forgotten legacy of late-Baroque composer Johann Daniel Pucklitz. Operating outside traditional musical institutions, Pucklitz developed a distinctly independent style defined by unconventional instrumentation, expressive solo lines, and profound theological depth reminiscent of Johann Sebastian Bach. Performed on period instruments in the acoustic setting of Gdańsk's Trinity Church, this release features concertmaster Katarzyna Olszewska alongside top-tier vocal and instrumental forces. Through Szadejko’s ambitious project, Pucklitz is revealed as an exceptionally inventive master, earning a deserving place among the major figures of German music history.

Johann Daniel Pucklitz (c. 1710–1774) was a German composer who spent his entire career in Danzig (Gdańsk). Orphaned at a young age, he reached legal majority in 1732 and subsequently worked as a musician at St. Mary’s Church from 1731, becoming a official city musician in 1741 alongside secondary employment as a cellar master. Despite the local composition privilege belonging to Kapellmeister Johann Balthasar Christian Freislich, Pucklitz produced sixty-two surviving works, primarily sacred compositions. He actively organized public concerts across civic venues such as the Artus Court and composed secular works, including a 1737 cantata containing an aria intended for a young Johann Gottlieb Goldberg.
