This album features renowned pianists Inna Faliks and Daniel Schlosberg performing Alexander Zemlinsky’s revelatory four-hand piano transcription of Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 6. Drawing on years of acclaimed performances at prestigious venues like Ravinia and the National Gallery, Faliks and Schlosberg bring this intimate studio recording to life with exceptional flexibility and emotional depth. By translating Mahler's intricate contrapuntal texture and rich harmonic language to a single keyboard, the duo illuminates subtle structural nuances while capturing the terrifyingly wide expressive range of the original symphonic work, honoring the shared musical lineage of Mahler and Zemlinsky.
Ukrainian-American classical pianist, educator, and author Inna Faliks (born 1978) made her debut with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at age fifteen after emigrating from Odessa to the United States. Trained under renowned pedagogues including Leon Fleisher and Gilbert Kalish, she holds a doctorate from Stony Brook University and currently serves as Professor and Head of Piano at UCLA. A versatile performer and writer, Faliks founded the Music/Words poetry-music series, toured her autobiographical show Polonaise-Fantasie, and co-founded the Hollywood Piano Trio. Her extensive career as a soloist, chamber musician, and author includes her 2023 memoir, Weight in the Fingertips.
Grammy-nominated musician Daniel Schlosberg is a versatile pianist, chamber artist, and educator known for his expansive repertoire.
