In this double album featuring over two hours of Iberian organ music, organist Peter de Jager explores the rich 17th-century Spanish repertoire recorded at the Monasterio de la Consolación in Palencia. Performing on a historically styled 19th-century instrument, de Jager focuses on the expressive tientos de medio registro, works tailored for divided registers that allow the treble or bass to function as a solo voice. The collection pairs Cabanilles’ contemplative Tiento de falsas with Peraza’s seminal Tiento de medio registro alto, highlighting a pivotal moment in Spanish organ history through the invention of split-register technique and its intimate, prayerful counterpoint.

Australian musician Peter de Jager is a versatile pianist, harpsichordist, organist, and composer known for his vast repertoire spanning period instruments to contemporary avant-garde. An alumnus of the University of Melbourne and former ANAM program participant, he now serves as ANAM faculty and Associate Accompanist for the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic. A laureate of the Australian International Chopin Competition and Art Music Awards, de Jager has earned acclaim for landmark performances of complex 20th-century works by Xenakis, Messiaen, and Dench. His career encompasses international chamber collaborations, theatrical productions like Reception: The Musical, and commissioned compositions performed across Australia.
