Die Kunst der Fuge (The Art of Fugue) is the fifth album in the Bach series by Jörg Halubek and his ensemble il Gusto Barocco – the think tank for the music baroque master Johann Sebastian Bach. The new recording is led by Jörg Halubek, who plays the historic German Silbermann Organ from 1737. Together with the Early Music ensemble il Gusto Barocco, they present a unique interpretation of the world famous Bach composition The Art of Fugue.

Jörg Halubek (b. 1977) is a German conductor, harpsichordist, and organist specializing in early music. Renowned for reviving forgotten repertoire, he leads the ensemble il Gusto Barocco, with whom he premiered Antonia Bembo’s L’Ercole amante and Sigismund Kusser’s Adonis. In 2023, he performed Graun’s Christmas Oratorio and debuted in China. In 2024, he returned to Theater Luzern for Vivaldi’s Giustino and continues to collaborate with leading ensembles like the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra. Halubek has released acclaimed recordings of works by Bach, Telemann, Monteverdi, and others. A Bach Competition winner, he teaches historical keyboards at Stuttgart’s State University of Music.

Founded in 2008 by Jörg Halubek in Stuttgart, Il Gusto Barocco is a Baroque orchestra composed of young, internationally acclaimed virtuosos. Rooted in the traditions of the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, the ensemble unites scholarly research with performance. Its core project, the “Stuttgart Series,” features rediscovered Baroque operas and world premieres, such as Kusser’s Adonis and Bembo’s Ercole amante. Il Gusto Barocco collaborates closely with SWR, WDR, and labels like cpo and Berlin Classics. Beyond performance, the ensemble supports emerging talent through an academy, an engagement award, and youth programs. Notable projects include its role as festival orchestra at Bachwoche Ansbach and a Monteverdi cycle at the National Theatre Mannheim.
