London Symphony Orchestra's leader Roman Simovic returns to the solo stage with a new recording of Ysaÿe’s Six Sonatas for Solo Violin, released on LSO Live. Composed in 1923, the sonatas pay tribute to Ysaÿe’s contemporaries—Szigeti, Thibaud, Enescu, Kreisler, Crickboom, and Quiroga—each work embodying a distinct style while pushing the violin’s expressive and technical boundaries. Often described as a love letter to the instrument, they remain among the most iconic works for solo violin. Simovic, renowned for his virtuosity and artistry, adds this milestone to his acclaimed discography, reflecting both his mastery as a soloist and his leadership of the LSO since 2010.
Roman Simovic, acclaimed for his virtuosity, imagination, and innate musicality, has performed across leading venues worldwide including Carnegie Hall, Mariinsky Hall, the Barbican, and Geneva’s Victoria Hall. A prizewinner at major competitions such as the Rodolfo Lipizer, Wieniawski, Sion-Valais, and Yampolsky, he is recognized among the foremost violinists of his generation. Simovic has appeared with renowned orchestras under conductors like Gergiev, Pappano, Rattle, and Noseda, and is a frequent guest at prestigious festivals including Verbier, White Nights, and Granada, collaborating with leading artists. A visiting professor at London’s Royal Academy of Music, he is also an experienced educator. He performs on a 1709 Stradivari violin.
