Ten years after their first joint recording (La Suave Melodia, Flora 3415), Les Timbres and Harmonia Lenis have reunited for a new recording. Surrounded by their friends, they celebrate the inventive genius of Georg Philipp Telemann (1681–1767) in works brimming with colour, instrumentation and timbre. This recording features the complete Six Trios from 1718, in a version with carefully crafted and highly expressive ornamentation. Added to this are two rarities, trios with obbligato harpsichord from the Essercizii Musici.
Les Timbres, founded in 2014 by Yoko Kawakubo (violin), Myriam Rignol (viola da gamba), and Julien Wolfs (organ and harpsichord), have become leading interpreters of 17th–18th century chamber music. Acclaimed with multiple Diapason d’or awards, their recordings include works by Rameau, Couperin, and Buxtehude, the latter realized during a Bach en Combrailles residency. Their repertoire continues to expand, with La Gamme by Marin Marais released in 2023. Though centered on trio music, they often collaborate with singers, instrumentalists, dancers, and actors, blending tradition with contemporary creation. Internationally active, especially in Europe and Japan, they also prioritize music education and cultural outreach.
Harmonia Lenis, founded in 2009 in Cologne by Akemi Murakami (recorder) and Kenichi Mizuuchi (harpsichord), is a duo dedicated to early repertoire and chamber music. Both serve as artistic directors, performing widely in Japan and Europe, with a strong presence in France through close collaboration with Les Timbres. Since 2010, this partnership has produced joint recordings and annual tours across Europe and Japan, gaining enthusiastic critical acclaim. Their performances, featured on Japanese television and radio, are praised for their vibrant interpretation of early Baroque works, highlighting the ensemble’s refined artistry and international reach.
