Founded in 1999 by pianists Elena Hammel and Laura Sánchez, Duo Scarbó gained international acclaim for its four-hands and two-piano performances, winning prizes and praise from critics and audiences across Europe and America. After pausing public activity in 2011, the ensemble was revived in 2018 by Sánchez and pianist Cristina Lucio-Villegas, who had previously collaborated on the Spanish première of Zemlinsky’s arrangement of Mahler’s 6th Symphony in 2015. Their official re-debut took place at the Madrid Contemporary Music Festival (COMA), premiering new works. The duo is dedicated to technically precise, sensitive interpretations of both classical and contemporary repertoires.

Spanish pianist Laura Sánchez has won multiple national and international awards, including the King House Piano Awards (1998) and the Ibiza International Piano Competition (2000). A graduate of the Madrid Royal Conservatory and the Royal Academy of Music in Dublin, she has recorded for major broadcasters and performed across Europe, North America, and Puerto Rico. In 2000, she co-founded Dúo Scarbó, appearing in renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall. She has collaborated with leading orchestras and festivals, and from 2006–2019 worked with JORCAM ensembles, performing internationally. Active in chamber music, she also teaches at the Getafe Professional Conservatory.
