Cellist Anastasia Kobekina crowns a remarkable two years with the September release of Bach’s Cello Suites on Sony Classical. Following her 2024 Leonard Bernstein Award, an Opus Klassik Award, and the ARD documentary Jetzt oder nie!, Kobekina brings a fresh, historically informed perspective to these iconic works, performing on period instruments. She views the suites as a dialogue of logic and passion, abstract form and personal expression. Having accompanied her throughout her career, Bach’s six suites remain both mysterious in origin and deeply revered, their prelude and dance movements offering timeless scope for interpretation.

Born in 1994, cellist Anastasia Kobekina studied baroque cello with Kristin von der Goltz in Frankfurt. Praised for her “overwhelming sincerity” (The Strad) and artistry that transcends technique, she brings striking depth to Bach’s Cello Suites, blending classical tradition with cultural accessibility. A former BBC New Generation Artist and Borletti-Buitoni Trust Artist, she signed with Sony Classical in 2024. Her acclaimed album Venice drew praise from Gramophone for its transformative sound. Featured in ARD’s 2025 four-part documentary Now or Never, Kobekina appears at major festivals, including residencies at Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Beethovenfest Bonn, and returns to the BBC Proms.
