Still Life, the debut album of Música d’Outrora, delves into the experimental, theatrical spirit of the early 17th century with works by Dario Castello, Ignazio Albertini, Gregorio Strozzi, and others. Centered on the stylus phantasticus—a style marked by freedom, contrast, and sudden shifts in mood—the recording mirrors the vivid intensity of a Baroque bodegón (still life painting), balancing stasis with vitality. Captured in the resonant acoustics of St. Alban’s, Birmingham, the album conveys drama, intimacy, and improvisatory flair. Featuring several world premiere recordings, it offers a striking new perspective on overlooked Baroque composers.

Música d’Outrora (M d’O) is a UK-based chamber ensemble specializing in early 17th-century Italian and French Baroque solo and chamber music. Known for its imaginative programming, the group blends familiar works with rarely heard gems, drawing on original sources to create vivid, historically informed performances. Its members, from diverse musical backgrounds, share a passion for revealing the intricacies of early Baroque repertoire. Recognized as a rising force in early music, M d’O was selected for the New Generation Baroque Ensembles Workshop (BBC Radio 3/RCM, 2023) and the BREMF Young Artists Scheme (2023–24). Supported by Continuo Foundation grants, they recorded their debut album Still Life and toured with Across the Alps.
