This album revives two rarely heard violin concertos by composers better known for their contributions to musical theatre. Robert Russell Bennett, a Paris-trained composer of seven symphonies, is celebrated for orchestrating iconic Broadway musicals by Gershwin, Porter, and Rodgers and Hammerstein. Vladimir Dukelsky, who adopted the name Vernon Duke at Gershwin’s suggestion, trained at the Kyiv Conservatory, wrote symphonies and ballets, and achieved fame with jazz standards like April in Paris and Broadway hits such as Cabin in the Sky. Violinist Chloë Hanslip and the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, under Andrew Litton, deliver spirited performances, with Litton also accompanying in Bennett’s Hexapoda.

Chloë Hanslip (b. 1987) is a distinguished British violinist who began her international career as a teenager, debuting at the BBC Proms at 14 and in the US at 15. She has since performed in major venues worldwide, including Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, Wiener Musikverein, and Seoul Arts Centre, and appeared with leading orchestras such as the London Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic, and Singapore Symphony. Her repertoire spans classical to contemporary, championing composers like Glass, Adams, and Heggie. An avid chamber musician and recording artist, she is Visiting Professor at the Royal Academy of Music, Ambassador for Future Talent, and plays a Nicolò Amati violin.
