Lynden Cranham’s lifelong connection to Bach began with childhood memories of organ music in Westminster Cathedral and later deepened through her love of the Cello Suites. Performing during John Eliot Gardiner’s Bach Cantata Pilgrimage, especially in Eisenach and Köthen, strengthened her desire to record the Suites herself. The opportunity arrived during COVID-19, when the peaceful church of St Peter and St Mary in Fishbourne became available. Between 2020 and 2023 she recorded all six Suites there, including Suite VI on a specially crafted five-string cello by Shem Mackay, creating a project shaped by circumstance, dedication, and long-held artistic vision.

Lynden Cranham studied with leading teachers in London and New York, developing a strong foundation in both modern and baroque cello. An avid chamber musician, she toured internationally with the Burnell Piano Trio and the Accordo Perfetto Piano Quartet. Her passion for baroque music led her to continuo playing and to work with the Academy of Ancient Music. She later lived in the United States, performing widely and teaching at Cornell University, before returning to the UK to record and tour with ensembles such as the Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique and the English Baroque Soloists. She also holds a PhD on music in nineteenth-century London.
