Yarlung Records continues its 20th Anniversary series with a reissue of Orion Weiss’s 2007 solo recital—an especially welcome release. Recorded in Zipper Hall at the Colburn School, the album captures Weiss just two years after winning Juilliard’s 2005 William Petschek Recital Award and making major recital debuts in New York and Paris. It also follows his remarkable early appearances with the Cleveland Orchestra and his last-minute substitution for André Watts with the Baltimore Symphony. These achievements underscore the technical and artistic command on display in this program of works by Bach, Scriabin, Mozart, and Carter.

Orion Weiss (b. 1981) is a highly acclaimed American pianist known for both his solo and chamber music performances. He has appeared with major North American orchestras, including the Chicago Symphony, Boston Symphony, and New York Philharmonic, and has performed at prestigious venues and festivals worldwide. Renowned for his chamber music collaborations, Weiss frequently performs with violinists Augustin Hadelich and James Ehnes, among others. His recordings span several respected labels, including Naxos and Bridge. Honors include the Gilmore Young Artist Award, an Avery Fisher Career Grant, and the Classical Recording Foundation’s Young Artist of the Year. He studied with Emanuel Ax at Juilliard.
