Astor Piazzolla (1921–1992) was an Argentine composer and bandoneon virtuoso who transformed traditional tango by integrating jazz, classical forms, and modern harmonic language. His innovations elevated tango from a popular dance tradition to a concert genre, with the bandoneon at its expressive core. Aconcagua: Concerto for Bandoneon and Orchestra (1980) represents the culmination of his orchestral writing, showcasing the instrument’s lyrical, rhythmic, and dramatic range through a vivid dialogue with the orchestra. The program is complemented by Tres Tangos for orchestra and the celebrated Oblivion, further illustrating Piazzolla’s enduring impact on 20th-century music.

Klaudiusz Baran is an accordionist and bandoneonist, chamber musician, educator, and professor, whose career has played a decisive role in redefining the status of the accordion in Poland. A graduate of the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw and the Conservatoire Paul Dukas in Paris, he has been closely associated with his alma mater as a teacher and administrator, serving as Rector from 2016 to 2024. Renowned for his versatility and musical sensitivity, he has premiered nearly fifty contemporary works and is a leading interpreter of Astor Piazzolla’s tango nuevo. A three-time Fryderyk Award winner, Baran has recorded over eighty albums and performs internationally.

Adam Klocek (b. 1973) is a Polish cellist, conductor, composer, and educator. He performs on the 1717 Antonio Stradivari cello de Vaux and serves as assistant professor at the Academy of Music in Kraków. A self-taught conductor, he has held leading artistic roles with the Kalisz and Częstochowa Philharmonics, becoming director of the latter in 2020. In 2011, he conducted the Grammy Award–winning album Night in Calisia, recorded with the Kalisz Philharmonic Orchestra and leading jazz artists. In recognition of his cultural contributions, he received the Silver Medal for Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis in 2014.
