Pianist Mathieu Gaudet concludes his Complete Schubert Sonatas and Major Piano Works series with The Testament, a final volume centered on Franz Schubert’s late and early piano writing. The album features the Sonata in B-flat major, D. 960, Schubert’s अंतिम sonata, noted for its profound sensitivity, balancing richness with restraint and emotional depth with calm introspection. It also includes the Sonata in E minor, D. 566, composed in the composer’s youth, which reveals inventive ideas and expressive brilliance. Together, these works highlight the breadth of Schubert’s artistic voice, from youthful creativity to mature, deeply reflective expression.

Mathieu Gaudet is a versatile Canadian pianist, conductor, and chamber musician with a career spanning over 20 years, performing extensively across North America, Europe, and Asia. His recordings and concerts are regularly featured on CBC. His 2008 debut recording of Rachmaninoff’s 24 Preludes received critical and popular praise, followed by a Schumann album. Since 2019, he has been recording Schubert’s complete piano works for Analekta, with a planned 15-album series—two of which have been ADISQ-nominated. Gaudet holds a Master’s from the Peabody Institute and a Doctorate from Université de Montréal, studying with Julian Martin, Leon Fleisher, and Paul Stewart.
