Lei Liang (b. 1972, Tianjin, China) is a Chinese-born American composer whose work bridges music, science, and cultural research. Educated at the New England Conservatory and Harvard University, he studied with leading composers including Harrison Birtwistle and Chaya Czernowin. Currently a Distinguished Professor at the University of California, San Diego, his extensive catalogue is widely published and internationally performed. Liang has received major honors such as the Rome Prize, Guggenheim Fellowship, and the 2021 Grawemeyer Award. His music, often commissioned by prominent ensembles, reflects a deep engagement with cultural heritage, interdisciplinary collaboration, and innovative approaches to sound and listening.
