This album features four contemporary works performed by Riot Ensemble, exploring the tension between structural order and collapse, with recurring references to Baroque influence. Eden Lonsdale’s Tränen und Ozeane evokes sacred memory through circling lines, microtonal lament, and dissolving textures. Eric Skytterholm Egan’s privacy of mind fragments and recombines material inspired by François Couperin, while Kaija Saariaho’s Gates explores thresholds through shifting timbres and incantatory gestures. Bernhard Gander’s ö, influenced by Motörhead, introduces abrasive energy that destabilizes formal boundaries. Across the programme, Riot Ensemble delivers precise, intense performances that highlight instability, detail, and sonic transformation.
