Wenzel Thomas Matiegka (1773–1830) was a Bohemian guitarist and composer active in the early 19th century, and a contemporary of Beethoven. After establishing himself in Vienna, he became part of influential musical circles that also included Schubert. His compositions reflect the stylistic legacy of Mozart and Haydn while expanding the expressive and technical possibilities of the guitar. Matiegka’s music is characterized by a balance of lyrical elegance, lightness of spirit, and virtuosic brilliance, combining melodic charm with refined instrumental writing. His work contributed significantly to the development of the guitar repertoire during the Classical and early Romantic periods.

Dragoș Ilie is a Romanian classical guitarist and educator, trained at the University of Texas at Austin and the Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University, where he was a Woodruff Scholar. He currently teaches at the George Enescu National University of Arts in Iași. An internationally active performer, Ilie has appeared across Europe, Asia, and the United States and has earned numerous awards, including multiple Grand Prizes in over 40 international competitions. He performs as a soloist, with orchestras, and in chamber ensembles such as the Austin Guitar Quartet, and collaborates frequently with violinist Alexandru Tomescu on touring projects and recordings.
