This Signum Classics release features four orchestral works by leading Chinese composer Xiaogang Ye (born 1955), performed by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra under conductor Dane Lam. Recorded in February 2024 at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, the program includes The Backyard of the Village, two concertante works—The Memories of Mount Jing Gang with violist Diyang Mei and My Faraway Nanjing with cellist Guy Johnston—and the overture The Loquat in Five Colors. Ye’s compositions fuse contemporary orchestral techniques with Chinese historical and cultural themes, offering a unique and internationally resonant musical voice.

Dane Lam is an internationally distinguished conductor recognized for his precision, passion, and ability to bridge cultures through music. He studied at the University of Queensland, Juilliard School, and Royal Northern College of Music, apprenticing with maestros including Kurt Masur and Gianluigi Gelmetti. Lam holds the rare distinction of leading major ensembles across three continents: as Music and Artistic Director of the Hawai‘i Symphony Orchestra, Artistic Director of State Opera South Australia, and Principal Conductor of the Xi’an Symphony Orchestra. He is celebrated for innovative programming that combines classical masterworks with regional composers, expanding audiences and fostering cultural engagement.
