Grammy Award-winning conductor Alan Gilbert currently serves as Chief Conductor of Hamburg’s NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra through the 2028–29 season and as Music Director of the Royal Swedish Opera. Renowned for his adventurous programming and commitment to contemporary music, Gilbert previously transformed the New York Philharmonic during his eight-year tenure as Music Director and served as Director of Conducting and Orchestral Studies at the Juilliard School. He maintains a prominent international presence, regularly guest conducting elite global orchestras and leading major operatic productions. A decorated cultural diplomat, Gilbert is also an elected member of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences and a Royal Court Kapellmeister in Sweden.
