This new album showcases a distinctive voice in British choral writing through three works by Edward Picton-Turbervill, anchored by Out of Eden. Performed by the London Choral Sinfonia under Michael Waldron, this large-scale central piece utilizes modest vocal and instrumental forces to construct a rich, compelling meditation on humanity’s relationship with nature. The program is balanced by Songs of Eden, an instrumental suite that distills these thematic ideas, and two intimate, contrasting settings of Kathleen Raine's poetry, Spell of Creation and Spell of Sleep. The ensemble delivers these evocative scores with outstanding clarity, urgency, and artistic restraint.

Edward Picton-Turbervill is a highly versatile British pianist and composer whose work emphasizes community building and environmental themes. A Cambridge MPhil graduate and former St John's College organ scholar, he studied piano at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. His critically acclaimed discography includes his debut portrait album Listen. It is here, a high-streaming Classical Pride EP, and his recent Orchid Classics oratorio Out of Eden. Beyond composing socially conscious cantatas, Picton-Turbervill co-founded the home-recital initiative Pipit, performs in a comic duo, and has served as organist at St John the Divine, Kennington, for six years.
