Zubin Mehta, born in Bombay in 1936, is one of the most distinguished conductors of his generation. Trained initially by his father and later in Vienna under Hans Swarowsky, he achieved international recognition after winning the Liverpool Conducting Competition in 1958. Mehta has held major music directorships with leading orchestras, including the Montreal, Los Angeles, New York, and Israel Philharmonic Orchestras, maintaining decades-long associations with many ensembles. Renowned in both symphonic and operatic repertoire, he has conducted at the world’s foremost opera houses and festivals. His career is marked by numerous international honours and a strong commitment to nurturing young musical talent worldwide.
