In his album following the award-winning Bach Mirrored, organist Maurizio Croci offers a fresh interpretation of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Clavier-Übung III. Drawing on Johann Nikolaus Forkel’s accounts of Bach’s unconventional registration choices and the bold timbral models found in Georg Friedrich Kauffmann’s Harmonische Seelenlust (1733–36), Croci places registration at the center of expressive performance. Utilizing the historic 1737 Treutmann organ in Grauhof, Croci brings these historical insights to life, presenting a nuanced and renewed listening perspective on Bach’s masterwork through imaginative, period-informed soundscapes.
