Krüger’s compositions span an extraordinary aesthetic range, encompassing diverse instrumental structures, multisensory sound-and-movement integration, and pure electronics. Despite this heterogeneity, his oeuvre is unified by a distinct focus on the physical quality of sound and a close collaboration with performers' interpretive capacities. Early organ works like “conTemp[s]lations” foreshadow his electronic explorations through expansive microtonality and timbral transformations. Meanwhile, pieces such as “fuckin’ A!” display high kinetic energy, and complex works like “rosebud”—developed at IRCAM with dancer Victor Virnot—merge choreography with live electronics. Ultimately, Krüger redefines acoustic boundaries, transforming performers into dynamic hybrids of human expression and technology.

Born in Ulm in 1987, composer Matthias Krüger completed an extensive international education in Cologne, Paris, and New York, and is currently pursuing a doctorate in Hamburg. A decorated artist, Krüger has earned prestigious honors including the Prix Chevillion-Bonnaud and nominations for the Busoni Composition Prize and Gaudeamus Award. His acclaimed compositions—including his nominated debut portrait album, ain’t nuthin‘ but fairy dust—have been performed globally at venues such as Carnegie Hall and Centre Pompidou by elite ensembles like Klangforum Wien. Alongside his creative practice, Krüger is an active educator and scholar, teaching music theory and computer music near Paris.
