In her debut harmonia mundi recording, La Traversière. Airs et songes, flautist Gabrielle Rubio traces the historic emergence of the French transverse flute from the court of Louis XIV to 18th-century salons. Featuring works by La Barre, Hotteterre, Philidor, Boismortier, Blavet, and Couperin, the August 2026 release captures an evolving aesthetic ranging from intimate dance suites to brilliant galant sonatas. Joined by gambist Lukas Schneider, theorbist Thibaut Roussel, and harpsichordist Cécile Chartrain, Rubio utilizes two distinct period-replica flutes tuned to A = 400 Hz. Supported by the Centre de musique baroque de Versailles, the album offers an evocative, highly nuanced exploration of French vocal-style instrumental art.

French musician Gabrielle Rubio (b. 1997) has forged a versatile career across historical and modern performance, moving seamlessly between the traverso, modern flute, classical and Baroque guitars, and theorbo. A graduate of the Paris and Versailles Conservatoires, Rubio has performed under leading conductors with premier European early-music ensembles, including Les Arts Florissants, Pygmalion, and Les Talens Lyriques. Her international profile is anchored by first prize in the 2021 NFA Baroque Flute Artist Competition and selection as a 2026 Talent Adami Classique. Through her residency with Lab’baroque at the Centre de musique baroque de Versailles, co-founding Ensemble Marilou, and teaching at CRR de Saint-Maur-des-Fossés, Rubio combines deep continuo knowledge with solo virtuosity, redefining historically informed performance through an expressive, multi-instrumental lens.
