Polish conductor Andrzej Kosendiak, founder of the period-instrument Wrocław Baroque Ensemble, joins guest flautist and conductor Giovanni Antonini for a recording dedicated to J.S. Bach’s spiritual cantatas. Featuring Bach’s Actus Tragicus (BWV 106), Komm, du süße Todesstunde (BWV 161), Himmelskönig, sei willkommen (BWV 182), and the hymn Komm, süßer Tod (BWV 478), the program highlights the flute not as mere ornament, but as an expressive voice of prayer and spirit. Joined by the NFM Boys’ Choir, Kosendiak and Antonini—former artistic director of Wratislavia Cantans—deliver a profound, historically informed journey into Bach’s sacred chamber repertoire.
Andrzej Kosendiak (b. 1955) is an esteemed Polish conductor, professor, and cultural leader specializing in early music, oratorios, and cantatas. As director of the Wrocław Philharmonic and Wratislavia Cantans, he spearheaded the creation of the National Forum of Music (NFM) and founded key ensembles, including the Wrocław Baroque Ensemble and the NFM Choir. Beyond establishing transformative educational initiatives across Poland, Kosendiak has championed early Polish repertoire through widely acclaimed recordings, earning multiple Fryderyk Awards, BBC Music Magazine Awards, and prestigious national honors, such as the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.
