Warner Classics presents a selection of Claudio Arrau’s performances of Chopin, Schumann, and Liszt as a preview to The Complete Warner Classics Recordings. Spanning 1921–1962, these restored and HD-remastered recordings showcase the Chilean pianist’s legendary blend of intellectual rigor, sublime artistry, and sumptuous clarity. The set includes four world-premiere releases—Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 30, Op. 109, a Chopin étude, and two Liszt works—now available in their finest sound quality from original tapes or best surviving sources.

Claudio Arrau (1903–1991) was a Chilean pianist acclaimed as one of the 20th century’s greatest performers. A child prodigy, he studied in Berlin with Martin Krause, a pupil of Liszt, beginning an international career at age 11. He taught in Berlin before settling in the U.S. in 1941, later becoming a citizen in 1979. Renowned for interpretations of Beethoven, Liszt, Brahms, Chopin, Schumann, and Debussy, he undertook monumental projects, including performing all of Bach’s keyboard works and Beethoven’s piano sonatas. Known for his refined, detail-focused style over showmanship, Arrau left a vast, celebrated recording legacy and toured actively into his eighties.
