Foron describes creating his album with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin as a search for a program with personal and historical resonance. Despite his German-Italian heritage, he was drawn to French music, selecting works by two composers deeply significant to him. Lili Boulanger’s poignant D’un soir triste, written shortly before her death at 24, reflects both her brilliance and her struggle with illness. He paired it with Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique, a work he once found excessive but grew to love for its depth and shifts in mood—especially after performing it in the 2023 Donatella Flick Competition, the same age Berlioz composed it.

Nicolò Foron (b. 1998), Assistant Conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra, is a rising conductor who has won the 2023 Donatella Flick Conducting Competition and the 2021 Jeunesse Musicales Competition. A former Tanglewood Fellow and Peter Eötvös mentee, he trained in conducting, composition, and piano from an early age, studying at top European institutions. Foron has led major orchestras across Europe, premiered numerous works, and conducted opera productions. Recognized as Deutschlandfunk’s 2023 Outstanding Young Artist, he has upcoming debuts with leading ensembles, international tours, and a Deutsche Grammophon recording in 2025, alongside broadcasts on BBC, ARTE, and Radio France.
