Jean-Marie Leclair (1697–1764), often called the father of the French violin, composed concertos that blend virtuosity with refined elegance. Violinist Stéphanie-Marie Degand, with her ensemble La Diane Française, presents a complete recording of these works in a triple album for NoMadMusic. This release, her fourth with the label, highlights her mastery of French Baroque style and deep commitment to reviving and sharing important violin repertoire. The project enriches her already acclaimed discography, offering listeners both artistic brilliance and a profound exploration of Leclair’s legacy.
Stéphanie-Marie Degand is a French violinist, conductor, and educator whose repertoire spans from the 17th century to contemporary music. Trained in Caen and later at the Paris Conservatoire, she studied with leading figures across both historical and modern performance traditions. Her versatile career encompasses solo, chamber, and orchestral work, earning major honors including the Grand Prix Adami and a Victoires de la Musique award. Cofounder of Le Concert d’Astrée with Emmanuelle Haïm, she has collaborated with prominent conductors and musicians, and also conducts ensembles such as the Orchestre Philharmonique de Liège. She teaches violin at the Paris Conservatoire.
