For his return to directing Le Concert Français, Pierre Hantaï presents Bach cantatas in collaboration with Taiwan’s renowned Taipei Chamber Singers. Recorded at the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts, the project unites leading German-speaking soloists, the ensemble Formosa Baroque, and a new generation of Asian musicians. This East–West collaboration highlights both artistic excellence and cultural exchange, offering a deeply expressive and unified interpretation of Bach. With rare intensity and refinement, the performance affirms Bach’s music as a universal language, bridging traditions while showcasing Hantaï’s vision and mastery in bringing timeless works to life.
Pierre Hantaï (b. 1964) is a French harpsichordist renowned for his deep affinity with the music of J.S. Bach, which he discovered at age ten. Influenced by Gustav Leonhardt, with whom he later studied in Amsterdam, Hantaï began performing early, often with his brothers Marc and Jérôme. In 1985 he co-founded Le Concert Français and collaborated with ensembles such as La Petite Bande and conductors including Philippe Herreweghe and Marc Minkowski. Now mainly a soloist, he also performs chamber music with Jordi Savall and others. His acclaimed recordings include Bach’s Goldberg Variations, the Well-Tempered Clavier, and works by Scarlatti and English masters.
