Jean-Philippe Collard’s recording of Busoni’s transcriptions of Bach’s organ works marks a singular milestone in his career. Rooted in lifelong devotion to Bach, it fulfills three aims: revisiting organ music that shaped his youth, honoring his father’s musical influence, and venturing beyond the repertoire that built his reputation over sixty recordings. The project embodies both personal and artistic synthesis, linking family heritage with pianistic mastery. Busoni’s transcriptions give organ grandeur new breadth on piano, offering Collard a sound world that unites memory, gesture, and harmony. The result is both a technical tour de force and a deeply personal testament to musical plenitude.

Jean-Philippe Collard (b. 1948) is a French pianist celebrated for his clarity, color, and refined artistry. Trained at the Paris Conservatoire from age ten with Aline van Barentzen, he later studied with Pierre Sancan, who shaped his musical expression. After early competition successes, including the Cziffra Competition, Collard debuted in Paris and the U.S. at 25, launching an international career with leading orchestras and conductors such as Ozawa, Previn, Dutoit, and Maazel. Acclaimed in Britain and worldwide, he has recorded extensively, notably Fauré, Rachmaninov, Debussy, Ravel, Saint-Saëns, and Chopin. Influenced deeply by Sancan and Vladimir Horowitz, he remains a distinguished interpreter of French and Romantic repertoire.
