Belgian pianist Marie François presents a complete recording of Chopin’s 21 Nocturnes, composed between 1827 and 1846 and now central to the piano repertoire. She views the works not just as masterpieces but as opportunities for growth, emphasizing their origins in Chopin’s improvisations and their potential for storytelling through phrasing, colour, timing, and silence. Rather than simply recording them, François sought a deeper artistic understanding, using the Nocturnes as a medium to refine her expressive voice.
Marie François is a Belgian concert pianist whose repertoire and stage presence reflect her bold, warm, and engaging personality. She views performance as storytelling, combining piano playing with lively commentary, anecdotes, and reflections to connect personally with audiences and inspire enthusiasm for classical music. François has performed widely across Europe and the USA, appearing at prestigious venues such as Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Antwerp’s Queen Elisabeth Hall, and the Martha Argerich Festival in Hamburg. Her 2019 debut CD Eclectic/Being me was highly acclaimed, followed by the 2021 EP Memories of Tomorrow. Alongside performing, she writes, appears on media panels, hosts podcasts, and advocates passionately for classical music.
