Opus 1 is pianist Anna Geniushene’s exploration of artistic beginnings—the first creative steps where ambition meets uncertainty and ideas take form. A Silver Medalist at the 2022 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and Musical America’s Young Artist of the Month, Geniushene delves into the early works of Romantic composers including Chopin, Schumann, Brahms, Berg, and Tchaikovsky. Through these pieces, she reveals how each composer’s Opus 1 embodies curiosity, individuality, and the search for identity. The album asks whether an Opus 1 is a bold artistic statement or merely a glimpse of what was to come—moments when everything was still possible.

Born in Moscow on New Year’s Day 1991, pianist Anna Geniushene made her recital debut at age seven in the Berlin Philharmonic’s small hall. A versatile and acclaimed artist, she has performed across major venues in Europe, the Americas, and Asia with conductors such as Marin Alsop, Edward Gardner, and Arvo Volmer, and collaborates closely in chamber music with Quartetto di Cremona and pianist Lukas Geniušas. A laureate of the Leeds, Tchaikovsky, and Busoni Competitions, she gained international recognition as Silver Medalist at the 2022 Van Cliburn Competition. Trained at the Moscow Conservatory and Royal Academy of Music, she now performs worldwide while also teaching, adjudicating, and serving with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s Bowers Program (2024–2027).
