Giacomo Puccini’s celebrated opera Tosca combines some of the composer’s most beloved arias with a dramatic story of political tension, courage and tragic romance. Renowned for its emotional intensity and richly inventive orchestration, the opera remains one of the most frequently performed works in the operatic repertoire. This live performance from the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino is conducted by Daniele Gatti and features a cast widely praised for its compelling vocal artistry and vivid dramatic characterisation, bringing renewed vitality to Puccini’s enduring masterpiece.

Daniele Gatti, born in 1961, is one of Italy’s leading conductors and currently serves as chief conductor of the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden. Over his distinguished career, he has held senior artistic positions with major institutions including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre National de France, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and Royal Opera House. As chief conductor of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino from 2022 to 2024, he led acclaimed productions spanning opera and symphonic repertoire. Gatti also collaborates regularly with the Berliner Philharmoniker and Wiener Philharmoniker, and has received the Franco Abbiati Prize for Best Conductor three times.
