Johann Sebastian Bach’s extraordinary versatility is vividly explored in The Many Faces of J.S. Bach by pianist Gil Sullivan. The program highlights Bach’s remarkable range of style, structure, and emotional depth, from the disciplined elegance of the First Partita to the monumental intellectual achievement of The Well-Tempered Clavier, often described as the “Old Testament” of keyboard music. Lighter works such as the 6 Little Preludes reveal a more relaxed and approachable side of the composer, while the Chorale Prelude I Call to You, Lord Jesus Christ, arranged by Wilhelm Kempff, reflects Bach’s deep spirituality. The lively Italian Concerto further demonstrates his wit, charm, and exuberant personality.

Gil Sullivan is one of Australia’s leading full-time concert pianists, performing extensively across Australia, Asia, Europe, the United Kingdom, and the United States. His international appearances include recitals at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, Concertgebouw, and Konzerthaus Berlin. He has also recorded concertos by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and Robert Schumann with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra. Celebrated for his spontaneity, tonal richness, and interpretative originality, Sullivan has received international acclaim, including praise as an exceptional interpreter of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. He studied with renowned pianists Murray Perahia and Paul Badura-Skoda.
