Alon Sariel’s Plucked Bach III concludes his Bach-focused trilogy in collaboration with PENTATONE, offering a refined and introspective reinterpretation of Johann Sebastian Bach’s works through plucked-string instruments. The programme introduces distinctive timbral colours, including the Ottoman bağlama, a Tuscan-type mandola, and the archlute, which frame and reimagine familiar repertoire such as selections from The Well-Tempered Clavier, the Notebook for Anna Magdalena, and the Second Violin Partita with its Chaconne. Alongside works by composers such as Westhoff and Matteis, the album emphasizes subtlety, space and sonic texture over dramatic progression. The result is a contemplative and finely balanced listening experience that highlights Sariel’s innovative approach to expanding the expressive potential of plucked instruments.

Alon Sariel is an Israeli mandolinist, lutenist, and conductor known for his versatility across early, classical, and contemporary music. Born in Beersheba in 1986, he began studying mandolin at a young age and later trained at institutions including the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, and the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover. His career includes international awards, solo performances at major venues such as the Berlin Philharmonie and La Scala, and collaborations with leading early music ensembles. Sariel is also the founder of Concerto Foscari and a prolific recording artist, with projects ranging from Baroque repertoire to innovative reinterpretations of classical works.
