Orlando di Lasso’s sacred compositions include distinctive and atmospheric settings of the Mass Propers for the major feasts of Christmas, Easter, Pentecost, and Corpus Christi, originally published in 1574 as Officia aliquot de praecipuis festis anni. This recording project presents the Propers—polyphonic settings of liturgical texts specific to each feast, including the Introit, Alleluia, Sequence, and Communion—in chronological order, interwoven with movements from several lesser-known yet exquisite Masses by Lassus. On the first CD, the Lassus Chamber Choir, conducted by Ite O'Donovan, performs the remarkable Pentecost settings. The project’s next release, dedicated to Christmas music, is scheduled for October.

Orlando di Lasso (c. 1530/32–1594) was a Flemish composer of the late Renaissance and one of the most influential figures of the Franco-Netherlandish school. Born in Mons, he gained early musical training as a choirboy and later worked across Italy and other parts of Europe, absorbing diverse musical styles. He served in prestigious positions, including maestro di cappella in Rome and later court composer in Munich, where he remained for most of his career. Exceptionally prolific, he composed over 2,000 works in sacred and secular genres in Latin, French, Italian, and German, earning lasting recognition for his expressive polyphonic style and emotional depth.

Lassus Chamber Choir, operating under the Dublin Choral Foundation, specializes in Renaissance and contemporary music. The choir recorded its debut album, Resurrexi, in 2015 and made its first public appearance at the National Concert Hall in January 2016, performing works by Orlando di Lasso, Bill Whelan, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Its 2016 commemorative concert, Remember the Brave, established the ensemble’s signature presentation style, combining music and poetry in atmospheric architectural settings. Since then, Lassus has appeared at prominent Irish venues and continues to expand its performance and recording activities under the direction of Dr Ite O'Donovan.
